The violence erupted on Thursday evening, following the demolition of a madrasa and mosque, prompting the district administration to impose a city-wide curfew in Haldwani. Police have also issued orders to shoot protestors on sight. Internet services are also unavailable in the region.

Haldwani Crisis: Court orders to dismantle an illegal Madrasa in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, were being obeyed when a Muslim mob became aggressive and pelted stones. A police station was set on fire. Twenty police officers have suffered significant injuries, and one narrowly escaped being burned alive.

Given the current scenario, it is not suggested to visit Haldwani due to the curfew and ongoing violence. Schools in Uttarakhand are closed.
