Historical Places to visit on Republic Day 2024

Republic Day is rapidly approaching, which means that 2024’s first long weekend has arrived! Now is the ideal time for you to start organizing quick trips outside of the city. Here is another holiday suggestion for the Historical Places to visit on Republic day 2024, as part of our ongoing series. There are numerous locations on the Indian subcontinent that were essential to our attaining independence. We have chosen to present to you five locations on this country day that represent our tenacious and protracted struggle to become a free, sovereign, secular, socialist country. Thus, gather your belongings and travel to these locations to honor the thousands of martyrs who gave their lives in defense of us.

1. Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh

JhansiGazing down the sheer drop over the walls of Jhansi Fort, where Rani Lakshmibai leaped down on horseback with her tiny son tethered to her back, is an emotional experience that is hard to contain. The Rani will always be admired for her bravery, even if she did not prevail in her fight against the army of the East India Company. She served as an inspiration for the Indian freedom warriors and continues to be a modern-day embodiment of bravery. Take a stroll around the expansive 17th-century fort, which has been completely destroyed by the soldiers of the company and left with nothing but the two renowned cannons, Kadak Bijli and Bhawani Shankar, and the temples dedicated to Shiva and Ganesha. Rani Lakshmibai’s life is portrayed in the Sound and Light Show and the War of Independence in 1857. A little distance from the fort lies Rani Mahal, a tiny palace that was once home to vibrant murals and is now an archaeological museum. There is a special gallery on the Rani at the Government Museum, which is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed on Mondays and second Saturdays).

Historical Places to visit on Republic day 2024Only the walls could talk. The Cellular Jail in Port Blair, now a well-maintained National Monument, is a far cry from the dingy jail that it was during British rule. The first prison, which was constructed in 1906, was made up of seven blocks of three-story structures that extended from a central tower. Historical Places to visit on Republic Day 2024. The most dreaded penalty was being banished over the kaala paani (black water), as the sea path to the Andaman Islands was called at the time. The inmates, who were largely serving life sentences in solitary confinement, were at the mercy of the jail staff and guards while they were imprisoned in the middle of the sea. The officials took great pleasure in coming up with creative ways to torture the inmates. On December 29, 1943, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, the head of the provisional government of India, traveled to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. He called the islands Shaheed and Swaraj, respectively, and raised the Indian tricolour at the Andaman Islands. A museum has been established on the three blocks that still stand; it is open every day except for national holidays from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. Entrance requires a ticket; there are camera fees. A ground-floor exhibition exhibit and a photo exhibit featuring images of the liberation fighters are located in the National Memorial’s entrance block. The first level is occupied by a Netaji Gallery, an Art Gallery, and a Library on the Freedom Movement. There are also galleries dedicated to the First War of Independence and antique photos.

However, it was in this location that the Civil Disobedience Movement began to take root and was essential to the Indians’ march toward independence. Mahatma Gandhi launched the Salt Satyagraha in 1930 to oppose the British salt restrictions, and it was there near the salt marshes of Dandi. Gandhi and his supporters started their march towards Dandi from the Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad. The throng had grown to thousands by the time he arrived in Denmark.
