No snow in Gulmarg : Shoking news for travelers
Disappointed tourists
Many Kashmiri visitors returned home without seeing any snow. No snow in Gulmarg in the valley this winter will have a detrimental effect on connected industries such as agriculture and tourism, as well as related activities.
Absence of snow means no skiing
Due to insufficient snowfall, many visitors who came here on New Year’s Eve with the expectation of enjoying skiing and other snow-related sports in the Gulmarg bowl were forced to return empty-handed. “We had planned a seven-day trip from January 3 to January 9 to take advantage of Gulmarg’s snowfall. However, there isn’t any snow. A resident of Delhi named Pankaj Singh told PTI, “We had expected a white landscape all over the place, but it is brown like any other region of north India.”
Impact on livelihood expected
Tourism sector stakeholders are concerned that the absence of snowfall in Kashmir during the winter months could have a negative impact on the livelihood of thousands of people living in the valley. “Our commerce has not received much publicity this winter. Our winter tourism is primarily dependent on snowfall, even though Kashmir is not the only location that has experienced a shortage of snowfall. The city’s tour guide, Muzaffar Ahmad, prayed for mercy from Allah.
The dire forecast from IMD
There has been a significant shortage of winter snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Ladakh this year, according to an official with the India Meteorological Department (IMD), and it is doubtful that this would change by Republic Day. Snowfall and an active Western Disturbance are not expected until January 25. Our priceless natural resource, the glaciers, are melting quickly, as depicted in the dismal satellite image from the MeT center in Leh, according to Sonam Lotus, Director of the IMD Leh Center.
More serious problems
Local farmers claim that because there won’t be much snowfall this winter, not even in the upper regions of Kashmir, the valley’s agricultural output may suffer greatly. The lack of enough drinking water would also cause issues for the locals. The primary source of water for our rivers and streams is the snowmelt that occurs in the upper regions of Kashmir at the start of summer. People in the plains will suffer if the mountains are devoid of snow. Due to a lack of water for irrigation, crops would suffer, according to Nowgam farmer Muhammad Akbar Ganai.
