Mahatma Gandhi launched the Salt Satyagraha in 1930 to oppose the British salt restrictions, and it was there near the salt marshes of Dandi. Gandhi and his supporters started their march towards Dandi from the Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad.

Known for being the home of the Lai Haraoba ritual dance and overseen by the tribal deity Thangjing, this small town in picturesque Manipur made history in April 1944 when the Indian National Army (INA), led by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, took control of Moirang and proclaimed independence from British India.
